Description

Gives a thorough treatment of the history and the methods of making whiskey, and explains how to make a high-separation fractionating still to distill it with. This is the book the home distiller needs to learn how to ''make the cut'', that elusive skill that makes the difference between making real whiskey and just flavouring alcohol. This process is also used to make real rum, brandy, and schnapps. This is a great read for the seasoned distiller, and a great tool for a beginner. Everyone loves this book.

If you had to buy one book - make it this one! April 21, 2012
Reviewer: matt from ohio
This book gets amazingly technical while staying easy to read.  It is very professionally written and the facts are trustworthy.  You'll read about the history of Whiskey (back to 700AD in Egypt, through Europe and into America), still design, mashing, distilling, and everything in between.  The verbose descriptions are summarized down to procedures if you are more apt to follow it that way.  Points are often reiterated in an alternate manner which helps a wider audience to understand.  I quite enjoyed the later sections detailing alternate mashing methods.

One word of caution - verify the suitability of using a residential water heater as described in the book.  At minimum - I -  would need to be glass lined.
